Drone Misfire: 85 Civilians Mistakenly Killed By A Nigerian Military Drone Strike
The Army verifies that it missed the target fire that killed 80 people and injured 50
Briefings on the suspected missed target airstrike that occurred on Sunday night in Tudun Biri village, Kaduna State, which resulted in multiple civilian deaths and injuries, have been given to the state government.
The Nigerian Army explained the circumstances that led to what it calls “unfortunate and unintended” in a meeting presided over by Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, attended by heads of security agencies and religious and traditional leaders, according to a statement released by Samuel Aruwan, Overseeing Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna State.
The Nigerian Army went on a routine mission against terrorists when it unintentionally injured people of the community, according to Major VU Okoro, General Officer Commanding One Division of the Nigerian Army.
Following the closed-door meeting, the Deputy Governor prayed for the souls of the deceased and expressed the condolences of the Kaduna State government and people to the families who had lost loved ones.
At the time of this update, the government had airlifted hundreds of injured people to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, but search and rescue operations were still underway.
