Nigerians Concerned About Opay App's Closure

Opay, a prominent fintech company, faced an unexpected shutdown lasting over an hour on Monday evening

Opay, a fintech startup, was offline for over an hour on Monday night due to Nigerians' incapacity to send money using its app.

This is concurrent with Nigerians expressing their anxieties on numerous social media platforms.

@Jagistplug, a social media user on X, tweeted: “I don't know what Opay Dey did this evening; I just went to bed and woke up first. Abeg, don't do anything with my 1.5 billion dollars.”

Another user, @iamvinicius_snr, said: “If opay crashes the amount of small businesses that would crash with it would be crazy.

Also, @cajal_ebuara: “Please oh I made a transfer of 80k from my Opay and I haven't gotten the money in my other account and the most scary thing is that it's not showing in my transactions!”

Through its app, Opay had announced that it was undergoing maintenance and that all services would be back up soon.

It says as follows: “Dear user. The system is currently under maintenance and all services will be restored soon. Please bear with us.”
