China has been asked to provide more details regarding an undetected respiratory ailment that is allegedly spreading among the nation's youth in response to a formal request from the World Health Organization.

The World Health Organization has officially acknowledged that it has requested additional information from China over a “respiratory illness” that is purportedly spreading in the nation’s north.

What is currently known: Children appear to be the primary victims of a serious chest infection outbreak in northern China.

China verified the unexplained pneumonia outbreak in northern China, which seems to be primarily affecting children.

“An official request for detailed information on an increase in respiratory illnesses and reported clusters of pneumonia in children” was submitted, the World Health Organization (WHO) said Tuesday.
