ONDO CRISIS: Tinubu Resolves Ondo State Crisis
President Tinubu Resolves Ondo State Political Crisis
The warring sides in the Ondo State political crisis, Friday night, agreed to sheath their swords and reunite, even as the state's deputy, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, agreed to close ranks with his boss, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
This came after Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa was impeached and Governor Akeredolu, who has apparently been gone from his desk for some time, was set to be overthrown by actors on both sides of the political crisis precipitated by President Bola Tinubu's involvement.
According to rumors earlier yesterday, the Aiyedatiwa could be named interim governor by the Ondo State House of Assembly.
It was learned that 11 legislators in the Ondo State House of Assembly supported Aiyedatiwa, dividing the assembly.
Sources claimed that elements outside of Ondo State made contact with the 11 lawmakers.
The 11 lawmakers reportedly pushed for yesterday's scheduled legislative session.
A politician who begged to remain anonymous stated that the meeting was a part of the arrangements made in Abuja with the other 11 lawmakers to declare Aiyedatiwa as governor and Governor Akeredolu incompetent.
The meeting with President Tinubu was previously announced by Speaker of the Assembly Oladiji Olamide, who stated that the meeting's conclusion would dictate the course of action to be taken.
Speaker Oladiji stated that Aiyedatiwa should be named Acting Governor on Friday rather than Akeredolu being declared incompetent.
“Our sitting was to declare Aiyedatiwa as Acting Governor. The governor is still alive.”
