Godwin Emefiele Sent To Kuje Prison By The Court [VIDEO]



Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank, was placed under detention in the Kuje correctional facility until November 22 by an Abuja High Court judgment on Friday.


After issuing the judgment, Justice Hamza Muazu postponed the hearing until November 22, when Emefiele's bail request will be considered.


The Federal Government charged Emefiele with six counts related to procurement, and he was arraigned.


The initial 20 charges, totaling N6.5 billion, have been lowered to six counts, totaling N1.6 billion.


The Federal Government said in the new charge sheet that Emefiele unlawfully purchased 43 automobiles for N1.2 billion between 2018 and 2020.


He was charged with giving a contract of N854 million to buy 37 Toyota Hilux vehicles.


Read count one: "That you, Godwin Ifeanyi Emefiele, male, adult, sometime in 2018 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did use your position as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria to confer a corrupt advantage on Sa'adatu Ramallan Yaro, a staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria by awarding a contract for the supply of 37 Toyota Hilux Vehicles at the cost of N854,700,000 only to April1616 Investment Ltd, a company in which the said Sa'adatu Ramallan Yaro is a director and thereby committed an offence."


Further, by giving one Toyota Landcruiser V8 April1616 Investment Ltd. a contract for its supply in 2019 at a cost of N73 million, he was accused of giving corrupt advantage in violation of Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.


The fourth count involves a Toyota Landcruiser V8 that April 1616 Investment Ltd. was wrongfully given for N73,800,000.
