Ex-NFF President Pinnick claims N2.3 billion from Davido in a lawsuit alleging a breach of contract, among other things

A N2.3 billion lawsuit alleging a breach of contract has been launched by Amaju Pinnick, the former president of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), against artist Davido and his record label, Davido Music Worldwide Limited.

In the lawsuit titled EHC/183/2023, which was brought before the Delta State High Court in Effurun, Warri, Pinnick requested that the singer, 30, be awarded N2 billion in damages.

The claimant is specifically pleading with the court for N150 million in legal and professional expenses as well as an extra N30 million to cover the cost of filing the lawsuit.

Through its attorneys, Amaju Pinnick, the owner of Brownhill Investments Company Limited, the organizers of the annual "Warri Again?" event, is also requesting an order requiring the defendants to publicly apologize to the claimant and attendees on all of the first defendant's social media accounts and handles as well as in two national daily newspapers for four days in a row.

In its statement of claim, the claimant claimed that on occasion in early 2023, Davido approached him when they met at the Abuja Airport, offering to hire him for the 19th iteration of the "Warri Again" event, which took place on October 6, 2023.

Davido was then scheduled by Pinnick to be the featured artist at the 19th Warri Again, which is scheduled to take place in Warri, Delta State, on October 6, 2023.

He said that under the March 30, 2023, Performance Agreement, it was stipulated that Davido would receive a performance fee of N70 million, which he asked be paid in full at the time to guarantee his appearance at the event.

April 6, 2023 saw the payment of US$94,500.00, or N70 million. A formal letter of reminder regarding the event was sent to Davido exactly one week prior to its scheduled date on September 29, 2023. The letter included the flight schedule of the private jet that was chartered specifically for him and his team to travel to and from Warri, Delta State, personally. This resulted in additional costs of $18,000.

It said, however, that all efforts to get in contact with Davido and his group on October 6, 2023, the day of the event, were ineffective, and that the private plane that was scheduled to transport Davido and his group to Warri at the Lagos Airport was left available in case they did not show up.

As a result, Davido's services are being hired, and Pinnick's organization is requesting full payment of $94,500.

In addition, it requested that the singer be barred from appearing as a musical artist at any show or event in Nigeria until he reimburses the full amount of $94,500.
