Big wins at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards for Burna Boy and Rema

Burna Boy clinched the prestigious title of Top Afrobeats Artiste, while Rema made history as the first recipient of the newly introduced award for Top Afrobeats Song

The first-ever Afrobeats categories were won by Burna Boy and Rema at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, November 19.

Burna Boy took up the trophy for Best Afrobeats Artiste, and Rema's "Calm Down" remix with Selena Gomez received Best Afrobeats Song.

The African Giant crooner made history by becoming the first-ever winner of the newly-created Top Afrobeats Artiste category, defeating fierce opposition from Wizkid, Rema, Tems, and Cameroonian sensation Libianca.

Likewise, Rema's remix of "Calm Down" topped Ayra Starr's "Rush," Oxlade's "Ku Lo Sa," Libianca's "People," and Victony's "Soweto" featuring Rema and Don Toliver to win the inaugural Top Afrobeats Song title.

Nevertheless in the Top Billboard Collaboration, Top Billboard Excl. U.S. Song, Top Billboard Global 200 Song, and Top Radio Song categories, the "Calm Down" remix came up short.

Taylor Swift came in second with ten wins, and American singer Morgan Wallen lead the winners' chart with eleven.
