70-year-old Ugandan Mother Gives Birth To Twins
Ms Namukwaya, who is is one of the oldest women to give birth, told local media it was a “miracle”
Safina Namukwaya, a 70-year-old Ugandan mother, achieved a historic birth by delivering a boy and a girl using in vitro fertilization (IVF).
The Women's Hospital International and Fertility Centre in Kampala, Uganda was the site of the cesarean delivery.
Celebrating the unprecedented milestone, the hospital posted the news on Facebook.
IVF is a reproductive procedure in which an egg is placed back into the womb of the woman after being fertilized with sperm in a controlled lab setting.
Namukwaya, who had already given birth in 2020, experienced difficulties while she was pregnant, including the father of the children's abandonment.
She acknowledged the challenges but also expressed happiness at having the kids after facing shame for not having any.
Currently, Namukwaya is regarded as the oldest African woman to give birth.
