UK' Has Postponed Diezani's Bribery Case Until 2025
Diezani Alison-Madueke |
The case involving Nigeria's former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, and allegations of £100,000 in bribery has been postponed to November 2025 by the Westminster Magistrates Court in the United Kingdom.
Recall that Diezani was charged with bribery on Monday, October 2, 2023, before Westminster Magistrates Court. The charges stemmed from an investigation conducted by the National Crime Agency.
Given that she constituted a flight risk, District Judge Michael Snow granted her bail but placed extra conditions on her.
The 63-year-old held a significant position in the Nigerian administration from 2010 to 2015. He also served as the president of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
She is suspected by the NCA of taking bribes in exchange for granting multimillion-pound contracts for oil and gas while serving as the Minister for Petroleum Resources.
As part of the ongoing investigation, assets purportedly linked to these offenses worth millions of pounds have been frozen.
The US Department of Justice received evidence from the NCA in March of this year, which resulted in the recovery of $53.1 million in assets connected to Alison-Madueke's purported misconduct.
Following his appointment as acting president in February 2010, Vice President Goodluck Jonathan disbanded the previous cabinet on March 17 and swore in a new one on April 6, 2010, which included Alison Madueke as Minister of Petroleum Resources.
On June 1, 2015, Diezani resigned from her position as president in order to make way for Jonathan's replacement. After that, she started working as a Trade and Investment Commissioner for the Commonwealth of Dominica.
