Atiku declared that he would remain in the nation to fight alongside other Nigerians to strengthen the rule of law and democracy.

Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) nominee for president, says he is staying put, despite what some have been speculating about his doing in the wake of the recent Supreme Court ruling.

He declared that he will keep fighting alongside other Nigerians to strengthen the nation's democracy and legal system.

Atiku made this claim on Monday during an Abuja media briefing.

The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), which had earlier rejected both his and Labour Party (LP) candidate Peter Obi's petitions in September, had his appeal against its ruling denied by the Supreme Court on Thursday.

"As for me and my party, this phase of our work is done. However, I am not going away. For as long as I breathe I will continue to struggle, with other Nigerians, to deepen our democracy and rule of law and for the kind of political and economic restructuring the country needs to reach its true potential."

Atiku urged young people to take an active role in politics and to be prepared to assume leadership roles.

"That struggle should now be led by the younger generation of Nigerians who have even more at stake than my generation," he said.
