63rd Nigeria Independence Anniversary: FG Declares Monday, October 2, A Public Holiday

In honor of Nigeria's 63rd anniversary of independence, the Federal Government has declared Monday, October 2, 2023, a public holiday.


Dr. Oluwatoyin Akinlade, permanent secretary in the interior ministry According to a statement released on Thursday, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of the Interior, made the announcement in Abuja on behalf of the federal government.


Dr. Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed that if everyone worked together in unison, the nation could achieve its greatness and maintain its preeminent place in the community of nations.


He claimed that Nigeria is without a doubt the top black nation in the world because of its warm welcoming nature, love, boundless human capital, and abundance of land.


This, he claimed, is Africa's pride and the 'Renewed Hope' of President Bola Tinubu's light of hope.



The minister wished the people a happy independence day and reminded that Nigeria's founding fathers worked together despite their differences in language, ethnicity, and religion to secure the country's freedom, which is now enjoyed by all.

As a fair tribute to the heroes of the past, the minister promised that the current administration will ensure a better Nigeria for all citizens through the "Renewed Hope" agenda.


"Dr Olubunmi assured Nigerians of Government's continued commitment to tackling challenges facing the country. It is today a known fact that difficult Socio-Economic and Security challenges are global, and Nigeria is not isolated," she stated.


However, she claims that the Minister stated that the Government is making daily attempts to address these many and numerous difficulties with all of its resources until relief comes our way. Dr. Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed that if we all work together in unison, we can achieve Nigeria's preeminent position in the community of nations and the glory that lies ahead for the nation.


Added to that, he said; "our warm welcoming spirit and love as well as our unbounded human capital and the richness of our land makes Nigeria unarguably the leading black Nation in the World being Africa's pride and beacon of hope for the Renewed Hope of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR."


"While wishing the citizens a memorable independence celebration, the Minister recalled that our founding fathers, in spite of the differences in faith, tribe and tongue, came together for Nigeria's freedom which we enjoy today. The Minister assured that this Administration through the Renew Hope Agenda will ensure a better Nigeria for all citizens, as a befitting tribute to our heroes past," the statement added.




The 63rd anniversary of Nigeria has events planned, according to the government.


Secretary of the Government of the Federation George Akume announced the schedule for the 2023 Independence Day celebration at the Monday World Press Conference in Abuja.


The theme of this year's anniversary is "Nigeria at 63, Renewed Hope for Unity & Prosperity.


Lecture on Friday, 29th September 2023 National Mosque Conference Center at 10:00am and Juma'at Prayer at the National Mosque at 1:00 pm


Presidential Broadcast, Sunday, 1st October, 2023 at 7:00 am


Inter-Denominational Church Service on Sunday, 1st October, 2023 at the National Christian Center at 10:00am
