"If I Ask For Free Land In Abuja, Don't Give Me" - Tinubu To Wike [WATCH]
President Tinubu tells Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory...
Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), has been warned by President Bola Tinubu not to grant him free land should he request it.
Instead, Wike was tasked by Tinubu to deliver the Abuja metroline for the benefit of the metropolis. On Sunday, the Nigerian Bar Association's (NBA) annual conference was officially opened in Abuja by the president. Wike was referred to as the "landlord of Abuja" by him.
"I want to ride on your metroline. If I ask for free land, do not give me," Tinubu said. "But deliver the metroline for the good of the greatest number of Nigerians."
Wike was one of the 45 ministers that Tinubu appointed. Wike is a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Wike stated that the Abuja rail mass transit (ARMT) should be finished in eight months during an inspection tour on Wednesday. The FCT minister rode the train from the metro station to the airport station, passing through the Idu station along the way. Loans from the China EXIM Bank were used to finance the rail, which was constructed in six phases.
On July 12, 2018, former President Muhammadu Buhari officially opened it, but it was dismantled soon afterward, mostly as a result of vandalism.
