Amusan Began Defending Her Title In Budapest
Tobi Amusan
Tobi Amusan of Nigeria will start defending her 100-meter women's hurdles championship on Tuesday (today) at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Amusan will take the field at the National Athletics Center in Budapest at precisely 6:12 p.m. Nigerian time.
The 26-year-old is in good spirits after the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) cleared her to compete in the Championship last week after a Whereabouts Failure Charge.
The Ogun-State native was drawn to compete in the first round's final heat in lane four.
Amusan will compete in the heat against Jamaica's Megan Tapper, who won the bronze medal at the Olympics, in an effort to become one of the four automatic qualifiers for the semi-finals.
She began her campaign in the most recent World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA, with a 12.40 African record before shattering the 12.20 world record set by Kendra Harrison in 2016 with an amazing 12.12 run.
Then, in the championship, Amusan won a historic gold medal to become the first Nigerian global outdoor champion.
