Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023, has spoken out about his contentious chat with Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church.

Obi stated that begging Oyedepo was preferable than instructing his supporters to seize and steal ballot boxes during the election.

Obi implored Oyedepo in the leaked phone conversation to force his members and Christians in the Southwest to vote for him in the presidential election.

Obi has called the 2023 presidential race as a "religious war," thus Oyedepo should assist him in persuading Christians to back him.

The leaked chat by the LP's flagbearer sparked widespread outrage in the country, with many describing Obi as a religious bigot.

However, in an interview with Arise Television, Obi stated, "Let's assume I even begged the Bishop to tell his congregation to vote for me so that Nigeria could be saved." Isn't it better than urging my people to snatch, steal, and flee with it?"
