Supreme Court To Issue Ruling On The Presidential Election Tribunal Petition On 26th May
President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice president-elect Kashim Shettima |
On Friday, May 26, the Supreme Court of Nigeria will issue its ruling over Kashim Shettima's alleged double nomination. His disqualification could delay Bola Tinubu's inauguration as president if it is upheld. Their ticket was run jointly.
According to the allegations, Mr. Shettima was nominated to run concurrently for the vice presidential nomination and the Borno Central senatorial nomination, which is a major violation of Sections 29(1), 33, 35, and 84(1)(2) of the Nigerian Electoral Act of 2022.
Investigative reporter David Hundeyin also claimed that a covert plan is underway to designate May 26 and 29, 2023, as public holidays in order to prevent the Supreme Court's judges from holding their seats.
