Former President Barack Obama and 500 other Americans have been denied entry to Russia by the administration.

The restriction, according to the Foreign Ministry, was in response to the most recent round of penalties announced by Washington.

United States turned down media requests for visas to visit the UN with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov Last month.

America had earlier on Friday slapped sanctions against more than 300 people as retaliation for Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The latest American request for consular access to imprisoned Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich has been denied, according to Russia, which has confirmed.

He was the first American journalist charged with spying since the Cold War when he was detained by the Federal Security Service in March 2023 on espionage allegations.

"Washington should have learned a long time ago that not a single hostile attack on Russia will go unpunished," it noted.
