Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate in the recently concluded February 25 general election, has described the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed, flying to Washington to declare treason as an act of rascality.

Obi made the claim while answering questions on Arise Television's Prime Time program on Monday.

Remember that the Federal Government warned Obi and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, that they could face treason charges for some of their remarks during and after the presidential election.

Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, issued the warning in Washington.

Obi, on the other hand, stated that the money Lai Mohammed spent in traveling to the United States to declare his treason would have fixed and erected a block of six schools in his village.

"In fact, if you go to his village, there are so many places where children don't even have desks or classrooms to go to school. And instead of using that money to go and do it, he used that money to go to Washington to announce the treason of somebody who is in Onitsha.

"He does not need to do that; it is the rascality of the highest order. That is the reason we want a new Nigeria where things will work the way it works in other climes.

"Then he went to London to announce the same thing while I was in Nigeria. He should come to invite me and tell me this is my offence," Obi said.
