PETER OBI REJECTS REFERRING TO THE 2023 PRESIDENTIAL RACE AS A "RELIGIOUS WAR"
Peter Obi, the Labour Party's (LP) presidential candidate, has rejected referring to the just ended presidential election as a "religious war."
In a leaked audio clip, Obi appeared to be pleading with the founder of Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, to push Christians in South-West and Kwara states to vote for him, emphasizing that the presidential race was a "religious war."
However, in a recent interview with Arise TV, the former governor of Anambra State denied calling the presidential election a "religious war."
He said that the clip was created by "manipulators."
He stated that he is not an ethnic/religious bigot, emphasizing that he funds numerous Muslim Onitsha locals on pilgrimages to Mecca.
He said, "I did not say the election was a religious war because it is not. These are manipulators. I am not an ethnic/religious bigot. I celebrated Salah with Muslim residents in Onitsha as I have often done. I have sponsored many to Mecca. I am not the one with a same faith ticket.
"And let's not forget, there was only one person that told his supporters to: 'snatch it! Grab it and run with it' during this election season."
