Peter Mbah NYSC Saga: Odinkalu Scowls At The Court Ruling Halting NYSC
The recent court judgment prohibiting the National Youth Service Corps, or NYSC, from issuing a disclaimer, rejecting the granting of a certificate to the incoming governor of Enugu State, Mr. Peter Mbah, has drawn criticism from Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, a former chairman of Nigeria's National Human Rights Commission.
Odinkalu questioned how a morally upright court could consider issuing such a directive.
He posted a message on his Twitter account including this declaration on Monday.
Remember that Justice Inyang Ekwo had previously prevented the NYSC from announcing that Mbah's NYSC credential was not granted by the Corps in an ex parte ruling.
Mbah's NYSC certificate was not granted by the Corps, according to a letter from NYSC from February that was signed by Ibrahim Muhammed.
Mbah won the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP,'s primary for governor of Enugu State on March 18.
Odinkalu asserted that a court could not issue such an order while remaining morally upright.
He noted: "How on earth does a judge even think of making this kind of order with a clear conscience unless there are things involved that a judge should not be involved with....?"
