Oluwatoyin Madein Appointed By Buhari As The First Female Accountant-General of the Federation

Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein has been appointed as the official Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), and President Muhammadu Buhari has given his approval.

This was announced in a statement released on Friday in Abuja by Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, head of the Federation's civil service.

The statement, dated May 19, 2023, was signed by Mohammed Ahmed, Director of Communications, and provided to news media.

According to Yemi-Esan, the appointment becomes effective on Thursday, May 18, 2023.

Remember that when Ahmed Idris was suspended for suspected fraud in June 2022, President Buhari authorized the process of selecting a permanent Accountant General of the Federation from the pool of Directors for the position in the AGF's office.

In a letter dated May 20, 2022, and signed by Aliyu Ahmed, the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, the Federal Government also named Anamekwe Nwabuoku as interim Accountant General of the Federation.

He was to take action while the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) investigated Ahmad Idris, the suspended AGF.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Folashade Yemi-Esan, explained in a circular HSOF/PS/CMO/193/03 dated June 21, 2022, that all accountants in the pool who have attained Grade Level 17 by January 2020 and are not retiring until December 2024 are eligible to participate in the exercise.

She said that directors who were subject to disciplinary action were excused from the exercise.

As a result, the Head of Service had instructed all permanent secretaries to submit lists of all eligible directors on Salary Grade Level (SCL) 17, their confidential and personal files, five copies of their curriculum vitae, and briefs of each eligible director in an approved format via a specific email (for a soft copy) and flash drives to the permanent secretary, Career Management Office, in the Office of the Head of Service.
