NIGERIAN DAILIES: FACTS TO KNOW ON THURSDAY MORNING

1. Yesterday, the Julius Abure and Lamidi Apapa factions of the Labour Party, LP, held separate National Working Committee (NWC) meetings in Abuja and Bauchi. At the Abuja meeting, the Abure group warned that any elected member of the LP found to be in support of Apapa risked having his seat declared vacant


2. During its meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, the All Progressives Congress's National Working Committee failed to reach a decision on the zoning of the Senate president and Speakership of the Tenth National Assembly. Adamu presided over the four-hour meeting, which began about 1 p.m. and was attended by 18 of the NWC's 24 members.


3. President Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday, in Abuja, inaugurated the Nigeria Agenda 2050, claiming that its implementation will "ensure that Nigeria attains a per capita GDP of $33,328 per annum to place her among the top middle-income economies globally by 2050."


4. The first wave of Nigerians returning from Sudan has landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja. The 376 returnees, who took off from Aswan, Egypt, following a chaotic border crossing, were evacuated by the Nigerian Air Force on the NAF C-130H aircraft and Air Peace at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday.


5. The Federal Government of Nigeria declared on Wednesday in Abuja that the Senate's protests will not stop the planned demolition of aviation agency offices at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. Hadi Sirika, the Minister of Aviation, stated the FG's position following this week's Federal Executive Council meeting at the State House in Abuja, which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.


6. Imo State University, Owerri, has suspended a lecturer, Desmond Izunwanne, for allegedly assaulting one of his female students who allegedly arrived late for a lecture and for not wearing the departmental uniform.

7. President-elect Bola Tinubu has tacitly rejected Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State's request for a reimbursement of several road projects completed by his administration, claiming he owes the governor nothing. Wike had demanded that when Tinubu takes office, the federal government return the money spent by the state government on the construction of federal roads.


8. On Wednesday, President Muhammadu Buhari left Nigeria for London, United Kingdom, to join other world leaders in celebrating the coronation of Charles III and his wife, Camilla, as His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort of the United Kingdom, respectively.


9. President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu stated yesterday that his administration would provide legacy projects in all sections of the country after his inauguration on May 29. He ruled against the marginalization of any zone, promising to cooperate with every component unit for the greater good.


10. Yesterday, the Senate joined renowned Nigerians and parliamentary institutions in pleading for the release of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice. It urged the UK Government to give clemency to the couple as they return to an Old Bailey Court for sentencing tomorrow.
