Judge Rejects Annulling The Election For Governor Of Abia State
The election of Dr. Alex Otti, the candidate for governor of Abia and member of the Labour Party, LP, was not declared invalid by a Federal High Court.
The Kano LP candidates who ran in the general election of 2023, according to the court, were not legitimately elected.
Remembers that Ibrahim Haruna-Ibrahim had submitted a request to the court asking that the certificate of return issued to all LP candidates proclaimed winners in Kano and the 35 states of the Federation, including the FCT, Abuja, be revoked and set aside.
Despite the conflicting responses to the ruling, Justice Nasir-Yunusa ruled that the Abia candidates who ran in the recently held general elections were not parties to the lawsuit.
According to Nasir-Yunusa, the court merely ruled that the Labour Party's primary election in Kano State was invalid.
"This court lacks jurisdiction to make an order for the issuance of certificate of return.
"They are at liberty to seek redress in the appropriate division of the court," he said.
