Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has challenged Erling Haaland to beat his own Premier League goal record after the striker rewrote history last night against West Ham United.


On Wednesday, Haaland scored his 35th league goal of the season against West Ham, breaking the record held by Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer.


The 22-year-old currently has the most goals in a Premier League season since Ron Davies of Southampton scored 37 times in 1967.


Man City defeated West Ham 3-0 thanks to three goals from Haaland, Nathan Ake, and Phil Foden.


He said, "It was special - he [Haaland] deserved it," Guardiola said at his post-match press conference.


"Without the team, he couldn't do it, but he is a special striker.


"This record will be broken sooner or later, maybe by him in the future. We're very pleased for him because it's a joy to work with him and

He added, "In football with a special occasion, you've to show how special it is. To overcome Cole and Shearer, incredible strikers, is special."
