For all employees in the nation, Monday, May 29, 2023, has been designated a holiday in observance of the inauguration of Nigeria's 16th elected president by the federal government.

Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the interior minister, made the announcement on behalf of the federal government on Friday in Abuja.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior's Permanent Secretary, Shuaib Belgore, the Minister congratulated all Nigerians on the historic occasion and praised them for their support of democracy, which was demonstrated in both the national election that resulted in the inauguration of the President-elect and his running mate as well as in all other elections across the country.

He exhorted them to keep upholding all democratic institutions and supporting and promoting democracy by upholding the rule of law. "Democracy anywhere is an unfinished business and the only way it can keep developing and serve its end of being the vehicle to good governance and the welfare of all the people is by adhering to its tenets of rule of law, support for democratic institutions, promotion of free and responsible press and advancement of the frontiers of freedom for all the people," the Minister said.

Ogbeni Aregbesola urged Nigerians to continue fostering ideas of peaceful coexistence and affection for our neighbors, stressing that only in a peaceful atmosphere can we practice democracy and reap its benefits. The Minister applauds all Nigerians for their tenacious efforts to establish uninterrupted civilian governance and smooth political transitions since 1999.

The unbridled energy of the populace, he claimed, is the country's greatest power and will lead the country to its highest height when it is positively used in its service. He pleaded with them to support and collaborate with the incoming administration.
