Former Chelsea CEO Peter Kenyon has spoken out about how Jose Mourinho's tenure at the club "unravelled" in 2017.

In the 2007/2008 season, Mourinho left Stamford Bridge for the first time in his career.

His departure came after a 1-1 tie with Rosenborg in the Champions League.

According to Kenyon, things changed for Mourinho after the arrivals of Andriy Shevchenko and Avram Grant.

Mourinho, he claims, approached him and pleaded for a way out.

"We were going to the screening of the Chelsea movie.

"We were all at the health club beforehand, and Jose called me to one side and basically said, 'Pete get me out of here.'

"That was Jose saying I had had enough. He had absolutely decided that it had come to the end of the road for him," Kenyon told Paramount+.
