Abia Governor: Kangaroo Decision; Otti's Camp Disagrees With Kano Court Decision
The Federal High Court's decision in Kano to invalidate the candidacies of Alex Otti and other Labour Party candidates has been rejected by Ferdinand Ekeoma, the special adviser to Otti on media and publicity.
When speaking to the media at Alex Otti's campaign office in Umuahia, Ekeoma referred to the verdict as "baseless, kangaroo, unfounded, and misleading."
He emphasized that Clause 9 of the Kano court's ruling expressly stated that, "the candidates that participated in the election in Abia State are not parties to the suit before the court, and as such, the court lacks the jurisdiction to make an order for the issuance of Certificate of Return to them."
According to him, the petitioners' case before the Kano Federal Court was a pre-election matter as defined by Section 285 (14) (a) of the Electoral Act.
He urged the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and her supporters to stop their celebration of the verdict and insisted that Alex Otti's election was still valid while reassuring Labour Party supporters and well-meaning Abians that nothing would prevent Otti from being sworn in on May 29.
While the news of Otti's candidacy sparked elation and hope in the PDP members' camps, it also generated worry among Labour Party supporters in Abia State.
