TINUBU TRIUMPH: TRIBUNAL INSTRUCTED TO REJECT PETITIONS FROM THREE OPPOSITION PARTIES
Bola Ahmed Tinubu
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked the Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC) in Abuja to reject three opposition parties' petitions that challenge the election victory of Bola Tinubu, the APC's candidate for president, on February 25.
In three distinct responses submitted at PEPC's Secretariat on Sunday night by Thomas Ojo, a member of the party's legal staff under the direction of Lateef Fagbemi, the APC urged the tribunal to reject the petitions.
According to NAN, Tinubu's election as president-elect of Nigeria was contested by the three political groups Action People's Party (APP), Action Alliance (AA), and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in separate petitions.
In the petition, AA filed claims against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Tinubu, the APC, and former General Sani Abacha CSO and the party's factional presidential candidate, Hamza Al-Mustapha.
In its petition, APM joined Kashim Shettima, Tinubu, INEC, the APC, and Kabir Masari, who served as Shettima's vice-presidential stand-in during the primaries.
INEC, APC, and Tinubu were named as respondents in an APP lawsuit.
In the lawsuits with the case numbers CA/PEPC/01/2023, CA/PEPC/04/2023, and CA/PEPC/02/2023, AA, APM, and APP, respectively, are contesting the outcome of the presidential election on the grounds of alleged material non-compliance with Nigerian electoral law and INEC regulations.
In response, the APC criticized the major parties' assertions.
Atiku Abubakar, the candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi, the candidate for the Labour Party (LP), are both contesting the results of the election.
But, Tinubu and Shettima, the vice president-elect, still have time to reply to all of the political parties' petitions.
According to legal regulations, a responder has twenty-one days following service of a petition to answer.
