2023 CENSUS: FG HAS BEEN INSTRUCTED TO POSTPONE THE 2023 POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS

The Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Calabar, has requested that the federal government postpone the 2023 population and housing census, which is scheduled to take place next month.

The church stated in a 9-point communiqué issued at the conclusion of its 47th Annual Synod that there has been a high level of insecurity in the country, calling for the exercise to be suspended.

They stated that Boko Haramists, bandits, and other unwanted forces have taken control of various places in the country.

He went on to say that these elements bring mayhem and horror to the hapless populace.

"Therefore, it would be impossible for the census enumerators to access such trouble spots.

"Synod calls for the putting on hold of the nationwide population census slated to commence on the 3rd May, 2023 pending when the security will improve", the MCN said.

The Synod expressed concern about Nigeria's high unemployment rate and urged President Buhari to revitalize the economy.

They counseled young people and the unemployed to learn new talents and put them to use in order to make a decent living and escape the grips of poverty and frustration.

The Synod expressed concern over the country's dire economic position, in which the vast majority of citizens live on the breadline.
