SEVEN PEOPLE WERE KILLED AND FOURTEEN WERE INJURED IN A LAGOS-IBADAN EXPRESSWAY


In a single collision near OPIC on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Sunday, seven people were killed by fire and 14 others were injured in varied degrees.


Mrs Florence Okpe, the Public Education Officer for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, verified the occurrence to Abeokuta-based journalists.


Okpe stated that the event occurred on Sunday around 10:45 a.m.


According to the FRSC spokeswoman, the accident was caused by excessive speeding and brake failure, which resulted in a loss of control, and that the vehicle impacted the road divider, somersaulted, and caught fire.


She added that the collision affected 22 people, including seven males, eight women, four male children, and three female children.


Okpe went on to say that 14 persons were hurt, including four men, five women, two male children, and three female children.


According to the FRSC public education officer, the seven people that died in the fire were two men, three women, and two children.


"The vehicle involved in the accident had the registration number BDG 993 YG, a Mazda bus," she said.


The injured were transferred to the Lagos State Accident Emergency Center in Ojota, while the deceased were deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) Morgue in Sagamu, according to Okpe.


She expressed sympathy to the victims' families while also urged motorists to avoid speeding and to get their vehicles inspected on a regular basis for proper maintenance and correction of any defects.
