NIGERIAN NEWSPAPERS: 10 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS SATURDAY

1. The number of Nigerian students wishing to return to the country from war-torn Sudan has climbed to 1,700, but the Federal Government has stated that the dangerous situation in Sudan makes evacuation of stranded Nigerian citizens impossible.
2. The Imo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the assassins of five police officers and a couple at Okpala Junction in the state's Ngor Okpala Local Government Area. On Friday, gunmen opened fire on cops who were eating at a neighborhood restaurant, killing all of them and taking their firearms.
3. President Muhammadu Buhari has asked anybody he may have offended in the course of his duty to forgive him. He made the appeal at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, during the ninth and last Sallah homage paid to him by citizens of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), led by Minister Mohammed Bello.
4. Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu urged the people of Kebbi State on Friday to support the administration of Governor-elect Nasiru Idris, adding that based on his background and expertise, he would perform better than the current government that he headed.
5. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, announced on Friday that it is unclear of the location of Yunusa Hudu Ari, the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in Adamawa State. Festus Okoye, spokesman for INEC, stated yesterday that Ari had not picked up his phone or reported to the INEC headquarters as required since his infamous action.
6. The peaceful settlements of Tattara Mada, Migini, and Angwan Barau in Nasarawa State's Kokona Local Government Area have been thrown into turmoil and sadness after a series of attacks by suspected herdsmen killed 12 people and destroyed several houses and properties.
7. No few than five individuals were abducted on their way from a farm in the Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State's Ingle Otanufe community. The victims were gathered from various sites on their way back from their farms.
8. Professor Dickson Akoh, National Commandant of the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to sign a Bill for an Act making the organization a formal body. The Bill for an Act to Establish the Nigerian Peace Corps (NPC), which was passed by both chambers of the National Assembly, is now before the President for assent after being transmitted to him last week.
9. Out of 177 suspected instances of cerebrospinal meningitis reported in Degubi locality, Nangere Local Government Area, Yobe State, ten people have died. The infection and inflammation of the fluid and membranes around the brain and spinal cord is known as meningitis. It is a terrible disease that continues to pose a serious public health challenge.
10. The Kaduna State Police Command has nabbed a middle-aged man, simply identified as Kenneth, for allegedly hacking his girlfriend to death in Kaduna. According to reports, the man hacked his girlfriend, Ebenezer Agada, 27, with a machete and slashed her into pieces for reportedly conspiring to dump him for another man.
