NIGERIAN NEWSPAPERS: 10 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS SATURDAY

1. Kano State governor-elect Abba Kabir Yusuf has claimed that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has distributed millions of naira to local government chairmen in preparation for the state's supplementary elections on Saturday. This was stated in a public advice made available to journalists by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Governor-Chief elect's Press Secretary.
2. Yesterday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) distributed electoral materials for supplementary elections in Kebbi, Adamawa, and other states.
3. According to the All Progressives Congress, President-elect Bola Tinubu is currently resting in Europe ahead of his inauguration on May 29. (APC). This was stated by Felix Morka, the ruling party's National Publicity Secretary, during an interview on Channels Television's Politics Today program.
4. The Independent National Electoral Commission intends to prosecute over 200 people who were arrested during the recent general elections for various electoral offenses. The Nigeria Police Force has already delivered over 50 electoral offense case files to the electoral umpire.
5. According to the Rivers State Police Command, its detectives apprehended a child trafficking network, which included three women, operating both within and outside the state. The arrests were made in response to a report filed by a lady in Ubima, in the state's Ikwerre Local Government Area, that her child had gone missing.
6. On Friday, the Ebonyi State Police Command announced the arrest of four people in connection with the murder of Peter Nweke, a Peoples Democratic Party chieftain. On March 18, 2023, the day of the state's Governorship and House of Assembly elections, Nweke was tortured to death by hoodlums suspected of being loyalists of a rival party.
7. Fire gutted over 200 shops at the Ojoto market in Port Harcourt's Mile 2 axis, destroying goods and properties worth millions of naira. The incident occurred after most of the shops had closed for the day. Though the source of the conflagration has not been determined, eyewitnesses claim it was caused by an electric spark when the public electricity was turned off.
8. The All Progressives Congress has yet to adopt a zoning arrangement for National Assembly principal offices. Members of the party's National Working Committee revealed this to press yesterday.
9. Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma was named the All Progressives Congress's governorship candidate for the state's upcoming election on Friday. Rear Admiral William Koyoda, Chairman of the Imo State Governorship Primary Election Committee, declared Uzodimma as the party's candidate for the November 11 election (retd.).
10. The ruling All Progressives Congress has denied that its National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, was flown to another country for medical treatment. In two separate interviews, the APC National Vice Chairman for the South East, Dr Ijeoma Arodiogbu, and the party's Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, denied Adamu's ailment.
