N21 BILLION IS REQUIRED FOR LAGOS NATIONAL STADIUM RENOVATION

The national stadium in Surulere, Lagos, needs to be renovated, according to Sunday Dare, minister of sports and youth development, who estimates that the cost will be at least N21 billion.

The minister stated on Friday, April 7, during an inspection tour of the stadium's continuing repair work: "We needed N21 billion to fix this place as at three years.

Only $400 million or possibly $400 million more was injected into the system. 4% of what we require, out of a total of 100%. We were practical. When we approached potential funders, they requested priority projects, and we provided a list of eight.

The financier also stated that he will construct the football field, running tracks, and digital scoreboard. Now, all three of those tasks have about 80% of the work completed.

As I previously stated, there is no magic solution since if I require 100% and only have 4% with an additional 2% from the government, I must continue.

The stadium's PHCN bill as of five years ago was N600 million. I could have paid the N400 million for that, or I could have played pitch and done the tracks.
