Hushpuppi's ally, Woodberry, pleads guilty to Internet fraud and agrees to pay $8 million to victims and relinquish luxurious Dubai assets

Olalekan Jacob Ponle, alias Mr Woodberry, a notorious Internet fraudster, has signed a guilty plea with US authorities, promising to hand over $8 million in wire fraud proceeds as well as luxury automobiles and watches to the foreign government.

Mr Woodberry, who liked to brag about his lavish lifestyle on Instagram, initially pleaded not guilty to an eight-count fraud charge brought against him for participating in a scheme known as business email compromise (BEC).

Nevertheless, a plea declaration filed on April 6 in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois Eastern Division revealed that Mr Woodberry had a change of heart and is now pleading guilty to count one of the indictments.

He was obliged to reimburse the $8 million he fraudulently got from the seven companies that fell for his scam, according to his plea agreement

Mr Ponle was also requested to give up his rights to the fancy cars and designer watches that he had hidden in Dubai.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan (J9153), Lamborghini Urus (N4973), and Mercedes-Benz G-class are among the high-end vehicles (G68816).

Mr Woodberry was known for wearing costly designer clothing and flaunting his ill-gotten cash to his large Instagram following, the majority of whom had no idea his affluent lifestyle was supported by cybercrime.
