FCT: IN A VIRAL VIDEO, POLICE DETAIN 40 INDIVIDUALS AND DEFEND ASSAULTING DETAINEES

Forty people who are thought to be part of a criminal organization have been detained by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command.

In a statement on Monday, SP Josephine Adeh, the public relations officer, also defended the beating of some of the detainees in a widely shared video.

Adeh claimed that a raid was carried out in response to accusations of gang activity in Gishiri village from three different sources.

The spokesperson said that the complainants named three ex-offenders as the masterminds: Awalu, Balo, and Baba Ali.

The individuals were charged with robbery, assault, robbery, assault, and charges related to the use and distribution of illegal substances.

"They have no regard for elders and leaders...They obstruct policemen or vigilante members from arresting any suspect when the need arises," Adeh said.

On March 30, the gang members are accused of stabbing 10 neighborhood residents, abusing many people, and damaging several automobiles.

According to the PRO, the suspects were aggressive during their arrest and when police officials were recording their testimonies at the Mabushi police division.

The declaration detailed how the staff, "had to apply force in suppressing some of the suspects who revolted after being arrested".

"The cut-to-suit narrative in the video in circulation was a scene of police officers trying to apply minimum force in restoring order," she said.

Adeh stated that "the officers involved have been officially noted for discipline," noting that the use of force amounted to improper conduct.
