Todd Boehly, a co-owner of Chelsea, has provided an explanation as to why Frank Lampard has rejoined the team on an interim basis through the remainder of this year. 

Boehly made the following statement on the club's official website: "As we continue our thorough and exhaustive process for a permanent head coach, we want to provide the club and our fans with a clear and stable plan for the remainder of the season.

"We want to give ourselves every chance of success and Frank has all of the characteristics and qualities we need to drive us to the finish line."

The opening leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal between Chelsea and Real Madrid will take place the following week.

In January 2021, Thomas Tuchel took over as manager of the Blues after Lampard was fired.

After firing Tuchel in September 2022, Boehly fired Graham Potter the following Sunday.
