EPL: CHELSEA'S WILLINGNESS TO LET A WORLD CUP STAR DEPART THE CLUB

Chelsea are unwilling to prevent star player Mateo Kovacic from leaving the club this summer.

According to the Evening Standard, the Blues are willing to let the player leave but are unwilling to provide him a fresh contract extension.

The Croatia international's current contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the conclusion of next season, after which he will be free to depart.

The Blues aim to cut their roster, which now contains over 30 players, and balance the budget after Todd Boehly's buying spree.

The Blues have spent almost £500 million in the last two transfer windows to sign a total of 18 players.

According to 90min, Liverpool is preparing to meet with the players' representation.

The 2022 World Cup semi-finalist has appeared in 33 games for the Blues this season, wearing the captain's armband three times.

The Croatia international is aware that if he joins Liverpool this summer, he will be given opportunities.

The Reds are in serious need of a midfield overhaul, with contracts expiring this summer for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, and Naby Keita.
