EASTER TRAGEDY: MANY DEATHS IN AN ENUGU HIGHWAY COLLISION

On Saturday, a Toyota bus collided head-on with a Mercedes vehicle on the Port Harcourt-Enugu Expressway, killing all 18 passengers and leaving them badly burned and disfigured.

According to eyewitnesses, a tipper bearing the registration number AAA 285 XTR and carrying bags of cement collided head-on with a bus bearing the registration number NKE 622 XA and carrying passengers.

The bus was coming from Aba in Abia State when the tipper, according to preliminary investigation, drove against traffic from Enugu City and struck it. Both vehicles then burst into flames, killing everyone inside except the tipper driver, who was taken to the hospital and is currently receiving treatment.

According to a statement on Sunday by the spokesman of the FRSC, Bisi Kazeem, "The victims have been given mass burial. All obstructions have been cleared. Enugu State Fire Service already extinguished the fir£ on the bus. The fatal crash is blameable on several factors, including fatigue, which must have made one of the drivers sleep on the wheels," he stated.

The event was lamented by CP Ahmed Ammani, the commissioner of police for Enugu State, particularly during this Easter season, when Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He commanded a thorough inquiry into the tragedy, including finding out who the deceased victims' loved ones were.
