TINUBU REQUESTS A COURT ORDER TO EXAMINE INEC MATERIALS
To defend his election, Tinubu requests a court order to examine INEC materials
In order to obtain sensitive materials utilized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the February 25 presidential election, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is asking the Court of Appeal for a ruling.
His attorney, Akintola Makinde, stated that in order to prepare his defense against petitions that attempt to invalidate Tinubu's election, he would need to examine, scan, and make duplicates of some of the electoral materials.
This was said by Makinde on Tuesday, March 7, during the session for the day in Abuja.
In order to change the instructions that had previously been given to Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) to check materials used in the 2016 presidential election, INEC had petitioned the Presidential Election Petition Court.
At the day's sitting, counsel for the LP, Onyechi Ikpeazu, stated his team requires a physical inspection of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) to enable them conduct out a forensic inspection.
Additionally, they requested that the material be stored prior to INEC's configuration of it.
But, INEC's attorney, Tanimu Inuwa, asked the court to reject the application because he believed it would seriously delay the March 11 governorship election.
In addition, each of the 176,000 polling places in the nation has a different BVAS system that needs to be configured, and it will be exceedingly challenging for them to do so quickly.
He guaranteed that since the data had been transferred to their backend system, there would be no data loss.
On March 3, the Court of Appeal in Abuja approved Obi and Atiku's request for access to all of the sensitive materials INEC.
Obi and Atiku had requested access to all the sensitive materials INEC had used for the conduct of the presidential election held on February 25. On March 3, the Court of Appeal Abuja had granted their request.
