MOST WANTED TRAFFICKER ETRADITED TO ITALY

An Italian court has extradited a Nigerian woman who was listed among the "100 most dangerous and sought fugitives in the world" to serve a 13-year prison sentence for offenses involving"criminal conspiracy, enslavement, human trafficking and exploitation of prostitvtion."

After spending years on an Italian wanted list, Jeff Joy, a 48-year-old fugitive, was extradited from Abuja to Italy.

Joy, who has been referred to as a key player in the Nigerian mafia, was in charge of welcoming potential Nigerian victims when they arrived in Italy and overseeing their business operations once they had settled there.

On March 8th, the Italian National Police released the following statement: "The investigations by the Ancona policemen date back to 2007 when the woman held an important role in the management of the prostit¥tion business between Italy, the Netherlands and Spain, characterized by viol£nce and thr£ats also against the families of girls in Nigeria.

The criminal is one of the rare women on the list of 100 dangerous fugitives compiled by the Central Directorate of the Criminal Police's integrated joint group for the search for fugitives.

Her extradition is the first provision of the extradition agreement between Italy and Nigeria, which was signed in 2020. It was made possible through collaboration between the Italian.

"Following an investigation by officials of the International Police Cooperation Service (SCIP) in the African country and the issuance of a red notice in 2010, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian intelligence service, managed to track down and arrest the woman on June 4, 2022.
