The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has apologized to Nigerians for the difficulties encountered when attempting to complete various e-payment transactions.

Mr Emefiele apologized at the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) briefing in Abuja on Tuesday.

Mr. Emefiele also noted that around one trillion naira in cash is currently in circulation and that the government will assess the cash situation to ensure that people do not begin to keep cash outside the banking system for personal use, as was observed prior to the currency reform.
