CONVICTED NIGERIAN FUGITIVE FLORENCE ONYEGBU WAS EXTRADITED TO THE US

Florence Enwerem Onyegbu, a convicted fugitive from Nigeria, was extradited to the USA on Thursday. She was sought there to answer to criminal charges bordering on breaking U.S. law involving the offer and payment of illegal remuneration in a healthcare matter.

The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, requested assistance from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in order to assist in her capture.

The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, requested assistance from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in order to assist in her capture.

Wilson Uwujaren, a spokesman for the EFCC, disclosed this in a statement.

Investigations by the EFCC, according to the statement, showed that she had changed her name from Florence Onyegbu to Janet Boi in an effort to hide herself.

However, Onyegbu's luck ran out on February 21, 2022, when EFCC agents descended on her home in Lagos' Ojodu neighborhood.

A national identity card bearing the name Janet Boi and a Texas driver's license bearing the name Florence Onyegbu were discovered on her at the time of her arrest.

Following an extradition order issued by Justice Z.B. Abubakar of the Federal High Court in Abuja on December 2, 2022, the EFCC turned Onyegbu over to the FBI.
