The President-elect, Bola Tinubu, has received congratulations from the United Kingdom.

On Wednesday, Tinubu got the Certificate of Return in his capacity as Nigeria's next president.

At the International Conference Centre in Abuja, the certificate was given to him by Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Yakubu announced Tinubu as the victor of the hotly disputed presidential election that took place on Saturday, February 25, in the early hours of Wednesday, March 1.

Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, who each won 12 states, respectively, came in second and third place, behind Tinubu, the winner-elect.

James Cleverly, the foreign secretary of the UK, praised registered voters for using their democratic rights in a statement.

But, cleverly advised opposition parties to pursue lawful means of resolving conflicts and concentrate on advancing democracy.

His declaration read, "The United Kingdom commends Nigerian voters for their participation in the presidential and National Assembly elections and for their patience and resilience in exercising their democratic rights. We congratulate the President-elect, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu

"We note the position of opposition parties on the election outcome and the concerns expressed by observer missions and civil society about the organisation of the process, including delays and technical challenges.

"We encourage the authorities to examine all concerns carefully, take action to resolve outstanding issues and focus on delivering the will of the Nigerian people.
