7 PDP STATES DROP THEIR OBJECTIONS TO THE RESULTS OF THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

The lawsuit filed by seven state governments controlled by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the federal government regarding the conduct, following collation, and announcement of the Presidential and National Assembly elections on February 25 has been dropped.

According to the Notice of Discontinuance that their attorney, Mr. Mike Ozekhome SAN, signed on Friday:

The conduct of the presidential and national assembly elections on February 25 as well as their subsequent collation and announcement have been contested by the states before the Supreme Court.

The plaintiffs are particularly requesting an order from the supreme court in the original summons, which is designated SC/CV/354/2023, "directing a holistic review of all results so far announced by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

They claimed that methods other than those permitted under the Electoral Act of 2022, the INEC Rules and Guidelines for the Conduct of Elections, and the INEC Manual for Election Authorities were used for the compilation and announcement of the results.

The Attorneys General of Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, and Sokoto State filed the lawsuit.

The only respondent is the Attorney General of the Federation, and the case was brought under; SECTIONS 6 (6) (a), 14 (2) (b), 153 (1) (F) AND 232 (1) OF THE 1999 CONSTITUTION OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA (AS AMENDED);

2. SECTIONS 25 (1), (2) and 3; SECTIONS 60 AND 66 OF THE ELECTORAL ACT, 2022.

They based their argument on the fact that the compilation of the national election results from the 36 federated states and the fct for the aforementioned 2023 elections was not done in accordance with the necessary requirements of pertinent portions of the Election Act, 2022.
