AS MOUNT CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS STALL CHELSEA CHOOSES TO SIGN TWO PLAYERS
As negotiations for Mason Mount's contract renewal stall, Chelsea are reportedly looking to sign two players soon.
The two players are Lorenzo Pellegrini, the captain of Roma, and Yeremy Pino, a player for Villarreal, according to The Telegraph.
Prior to the January transfer window, Chelsea is interested in both Pellegrini and Pino.
The contract for the England international Mount is set to expire in June 2024, therefore Chelsea has been in talks to extend it.
After a shaky start to the Premier League season, the Blues are hoping to reinforce their midfield as they currently sit in eighth place on the log, eight points behind fourth-place Tottenham heading into the World Cup break.
Although it is said that talks have reached a "stalemate," a deal between Chelsea and Mount is still a long way off.
According to the article, Pellegrini and Pino are both on the west London club's short list as they want to improve boss Graham Potter's midfield options.
Pellegrini, who has been effective for Roma thus far this season, has been linked to a transfer to Newcastle United, a Premier League opponent of Chelsea, in advance of the January transfer window.
On the other hand, Pino has had difficulty maintaining consistency in La Liga this year. In his first 13 league games, he has only one goal scored and no assists.
