WE'RE LUCKY THE EAGLES DID NOT QUALIFY IN 2022
During our discussion about the Super Eagles' friendly match with Algeria, a friend advised this writer that it was better if The Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
I asked, How? And he said, "With about 50% of the first team players playing in second tier cadres of major European leagues and or leagues of countries like Saudi Arabia, Cyprus, Malta or Israel there is no way, the team could have performed magic.
"They would have been roundly beaten in the group stage with scandalous scorelines because the team would have played disjointedly. A lot of the players especially those in the defence would have been exposed due to match rustiness.
"Remember not all Super Eagles major defenders are playing regularly for their clubs at the moment even as the said clubs are in lower divisions or third tier leagues of Europe.
"I think Ghana did is a whole lot of good by saving us the likely embarrassment of being pummelled by serious and better prepared countries whose players are featuring weekly for top clubs in the EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue un and Eredevise, among others."
