President Muhammadu Buhari has called on the international community to form collaborative partnerships that will allow Nigeria to position learners at the center of its national efforts to transform education. He believes that no country can progress beyond the capacity of its educational system.
Many of the country's universities have been closed for more than six months due to the FG's refusal to meet the Academic Staff Union of Universities' demands.
The president stated that it would be difficult to have a meaningful conversation about transforming national education systems unless the teaching profession was transformed, and he called for more deliberations on efforts to expand innovations and research on teacher education and teacher professional development.
According to him, using information technology as a teaching tool has the potential to transform and erase learning boundaries, as well as re-engineer how learning occurs both inside and outside the classroom. Mr. Buhari expressed optimism that closing the digital divide would provide opportunities for Nigeria to expand learning and transform the education system, while also creating a knowledge ecosystem and a truly resilient society.
