OGUN HOUSE SPEAKER, CLERK, AND ACCOUNTANT TO BE ARRAIGNED

EFCC charges Ogun House Speaker, Clerk, and Accountant with multi million naira fraud, to be arraigned today

We have reliable information that the embattled Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, may lose his seat as members of the Assembly gather signatures to impeach him.

Recall that the Speaker was arrested by EFCC officials at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Wednesday morning and secretly flown to Abuja before being released on administrative bail on Friday evening.

He was said to be on the commission's wanted list after failing to respond to the EFCC's invitation several times.

Oluomo and others (yet to be named) were accused of forging signatures on state Assembly financial documents.

The Speaker's political career appears to be in jeopardy, as some lawmakers have begun signing petitions to process the embattled speaker's impeachment move.

Some lawmakers who spoke with our reporter on the condition of anonymity because they feared being attacked or lobbied by the executive said they intend to impeach Oluomo on a 13-count charge.

Oluomo allegedly misled the House and forged members' signatures to commit fraud, according to the leader of the disgruntled lawmakers who spoke with us on the phone.

The 13-count charge, according to the lawmaker, borders on falsification/tampering with the House Standing Order:

He claimed that the Speaker, in collusion with the Clerk, allegedly falsified the current Standing Order of the House prior to the start of the 9th Assembly in order to favor his election as Speaker and disqualify others from contesting, among other things.

"Falsification of Financial Autonomy Bill after Passage: S.7(4) of Ogun State Legislative Funds Management Bill, was falsified for personal/selfish reasons." Following the passage on the House floor, he falsified the contents in his favor before submitting a clean copy to the Government for assent. The section was about his Speaker Approval Limit. He also removed the section requiring quarterly accountability of the House's funds' finances.
