N500,000 IS AWARDED TO A NIGERIAN GRADUATE WHO RETURNED HIS DIPLOMA TO HIS ALMA MATER

Mr Alaba had stated that if he received fees while a student, he would use them to develop his natural talent.

Osunleke Alaba, a graduate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho, Oyo State, who recently returned his certificate to the institution requesting a refund of his fees during his studentship, has received N500,000 in start-up funding from the alumni association.

Mr Alaba, a graduate of the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, had complained about the "worthlessness" of his diploma after failing to find work years after graduation.

In a viral video, Mr Alaba caused a commotion at the reception desk of one of the school's administrative buildings, claiming his parents are sick of his constant reliance on them.

He stated that if he received his fees for the five-year program, he would use them to develop his innate artistic talent.

I returned the certificate because it had no bearing on my existence, and I requested a refund of my school fees so that I could use it to develop my talent and live a meaningful life."

"I'm an entertainer who won the MTN talent hunt award during my service year in 2016."

The father of two added that despite his efforts to improve his family's living conditions, he has continued to receive advice to engage in ritual activities to become wealthy "but can never do that."

"My father is 90 years old, but I continue to borrow money from him rather than give it to him; all I want now is assistance in any form so that I can pursue my entertainment career."
