LIZ TRUSS IS THE NEW LEADER OF THE UK CONSERVATIVE PARTY
Liz Truss is the new leader of the UK Conservative Party and is set to become Prime Minister
Liz Truss, the UK's foreign secretary, has been elected as the next leader of the Conservative Party and will be confirmed as Prime Minister by Queen Elizabeth tomorrow in Balmoral.
Ms Truss defeated ex-finance minister Rishi Sunak to win the seat following the resignation of Boris Johnson a few months ago.
She received 81,326 votes, or 57.4 percent of the votes cast by Conservative Party members, while Mr Sunak received 60,399 votes, or 42.6 percent of the votes cast.
Ms Truss will be the UK's third female prime minister.
In her acceptance speech, she reaffirmed her commitment to running as a conservative.
"We must demonstrate our ability to deliver over the next two years. I will deliver on a bold plan to cut taxes and grow our economy; I will deliver on the energy crisis, both in terms of people's energy bills and the long-term issues we face with energy supply. will provide the National Health Service But we will all do our best for our country." Ms. Truss stated.
She also stated on Twitter that she was honored to be elected Conservative Party leader.
"Thank you for putting your trust in me to lead and deliver for our great country. will take bold action to get us all through these difficult times, grow our economy, and unleash the full potential of the United Kingdom, "She used Twitter.
Boris Johnson will tender his resignation to the Queen tomorrow, who will accept and name Ms Truss as the new Prime Minister.
Ms Truss will appoint cabinet members following her confirmation.
