IPPIS DETECTS 54,000 FRAUDULENT PAYROLL ENTRIES - NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER
Through its whistleblowing policy, the federal government discovered approximately 54,000 fraudulent payroll entries in its Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).
Mr Babagana Monguno, the National Security Adviser (NSA), disclosed this at the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) National Policy Dialogue on Corruption and Security on Friday in Abuja.
He attributed the discovery to the expansion of IPPIS coverage, despite strong opposition from some quarters. Monguno also stated that the deployment of the Bank Verification Number (BVN) would be used to validate the Federal Government's stance on the payment platform to detection.
He stated that the Treasury Single Account (TSA) has been implemented in more than 90% of all Ministries. Government Departments and Agencies (MDAS) have resulted in the consolidation of over 70,000 bank accounts previously spread across deposit money banks in the country, resulting in a monthly savings of approximately N4 billion in bank charges.
The event was held to discuss current security challenges and how corruption is exacerbating the country's problems. According to Monguno, corruption has hampered the government's ability to provide a better life for its citizens, negatively affecting the country.
